Mission/Vision
The mission and vision of IEEE Region 10 WIE is to inspire, engage, encourage, and empower IEEE women so as to form a vibrant community of IEEE women and men innovating the world of tomorrow.
Objectives:
The WIE at Region 10 aims at
- Inspire young women in high schools to take up Engineering & technical studies & career
- Engage the interests of women in enhancing their technological and professional skills
- Encourage women to their acquired skills and education for the betterment of the society
- Empower and foster women in leadership roles and career advancement
- Promote nominations for MGA Awards from R10
Activity Plans in 2016:
IEEE R10 WIE Survey
In 2016, R10 WIE is going to conduct a WIE survey from March to understanding the demographic profile of the volunteer, the activity Levels of section WIE Affinity Groups (AGs)/ Student Branch (SB) WIE AGs, the expectations of section WIE AGs/SB WIE AGs from R10 and Global WIE and the member Satisfaction. We encourage WIE volunteers in R10 to participate in the survey thus helping IEEE R10 WIE to design strategies required to meet the vision.
Formation of new WIE AGs and guiding the inactive WIE AGs
WIE mentor and mentee program (WIEMMP) is proposed by R10 WIE in 2016 with a view to WIE membership development and retention of WIE membership after graduation. Under WIEMMP, IEEE R10 WIE will support the establishment of new WIE AGs in diversified areas in R10 (In particular, north, south east Asia and ANZ), identify volunteers and train them for performing WIE activities. We will also encourage and guide the inactive WIE affinity groups for engaging them in activities by being in constant contact with them through skype, e-mail and possible face-to-face meetings
IEEE R10 WIE support Fund
IEEE R10 WIE will help initiate/motivate new projects/activities by providing full/partial support fund for project implementation to the section WIE AGs/ SB WIE AGs. In 2016, we encourage proposal submission from less active/inactive WIE AGs /SB WIE AGs. The sample programs for which proposal can be submitted are, PROGRESS (PROmote GendeR Equal Societies) program, Conferences/Workshops, Congress/Forum, STAR (Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist) outreach program, Professional and Career Development program, Development/Outreach program to Rural areas, entrepreneurship development and Industry engagement. The call for proposals for R10 WIE support fund 2016 will be sent in March and all projects must be completed and reported by October 2016.
IEEE R10 WIE Awards
IEEE R10 WIE will identify outstanding WIE AGs, SB WIE AGs and outstanding WIE volunteers (student/Professional) for IEEE R10 WIE awards. 2016 R10 WIE awards are for activity/contributions during 2015. In 2016, a detail description of R10 WIE awards (purpose, scope, eligibility, nomination conditions, basis of selection, schedule etc.), nomination forms, and year-wise list of past recipients of each of the awards are updated in the R10 WIE website at (https://wie.ieeer10.org/awards). The call for award nominations will be circulated in March and awards will be presented in August 2016.
WIE Awareness through WIE events in IEEE R10 Programs/ WIE new initiative Programs (WIENIP)
IEEE WIE Global Summit, 24th August, Bangalore, India;
IEEE R10 Students/ Young Professionals/WIE and Life member Congress, 25-27th August, Bangalore, India.
IEEE R10 WIE will support/co-organize the following programs in IEEE Region 10 flagship events:
- WIE track at TENSYM/TENCON 2016 (9-11 May, Bali, Indonesia/15-18 November, Singapore)
- WIE track at R10 HTC 2016 (21-23 December, Agra, India)
IEEE R10 WIE will support/co-organize R10 WIE new initiative programs (WIENIP)
- WIENIP: R10 50 years celebration events and IEEE day celebration by WIE AG/SB WIE AGs (September –October 2016)
- IEEE WIECON-ECE 2016 (December 2016)
